Whatchu Talking About TMZ
June 8th 2010 05:16
Celebrity gossip website TMZ is reporting today that the ex-wife of Different Strokes actor Gary Coleman has struck a deal with an unnamed tabloid to sell 3 photos of the star as he lay hooked up to life support machines. The photographs were taken just prior to his death. It is reported that his ex-wife will receive a cut of the profits.
TMZ also is reporting that a fourth photograph was not sold, this photograph reportedly contains images of Coleman after he had passed away.
Gary Coleman was the most famous child star of his age, and his life was fraught with tragedy. He famously sued his parents and business advisor for misappropriation of his $3.8 million dollar trust fund in 1989 and declared bankruptcy in 1999.
Anyone who has seen entertainment shows since his passing already knows there is a war being waged over who will get the deceased stars remains, with his Different Strokes brother Todd Bridges saying on Entertainment Tonight that Colemans parents have no right to them.
His ex-wife was recently interviewed on Good Morning America and said that her and Coleman were preparing to remarry after their 2008 divorce and were planning their remarriage at the time of his passing.
The sale of these photographs begs the question, how much lower can tabloid journalism sink. Is it important for the world to see a much beloved star covered in tubes as a life machine breaths for him? Can we not leave him with dignity in death?
