Various news outlets today announced the head-scratching story of Pearl Carter, 72 who is paying a surrogate to help her have a baby with the love of her life. Now with advances in medical technology this isn't really much of a story anymore. It's been done before. The part that has left readers reaching for the bucket is the fact the father of this child, is 26 year old Phil Bailey, her Grandson.
The happy couple - Phil is the son of Pearls daughter Lynette who she gave up for adoption when she was only 18 - met after Lynette passed away and Paul went in search of his mothers biological family.
Now strange as the story is, uk.new.yahoo.com reports the child will be the result of a donor egg and Phil, so genetically at least the child won't have to worry about inheriting genes from related family members, but the emotional turmoil that child is going to face is something else altogether.
Pearl, whose only child was Lynette is quoted in the article as saying
"I am finally going to be a mum and not forced to give up my child. Phil's going to be a great dad.
"I never in a million years thought at 72 I'd be 'pregnant' and in love with my grandson.
"I make no apologies and I believe God's given me a second chance."
