Same Sex Adoption Bill Passed by NSW Upper House
September 8th 2010 10:37
Earlier this evening a vote was held in the NSW Upper House regarding the Clover Moore sponsored members bill which passed with a narrow win just last week.
After a day of debate, the bill succeeded with a vote of 22-15 in favour. Two further ammendments were added to the bill: the first by Attorney-General John Hatzistergos to narrow the exemption of faith based groups to Same Sex adoption and the second by Rev Fred Nile which sought that information about prospective adoptive parents be given to the childs birth parents.
The bill will now return for a second round of debate in the lower house to advise them of the attorney's amendments that were passed, then it goes to the Attorney General to be signed into law. Once this final step has been done, Same Sex Adoption in NSW will be law.
